Re-Admission Policy

Students who withdraw or are withdrawn from AGS, must reapply for admission. Upon re-admission, the student is subject to any and all new degree requirements as indicated in the catalog under which the student is readmitted. This includes updates and changes to any institutional policies and procedures implemented during the student's period of withdrawal/inactivity. The new catalog requirements supersede any requirements in place at the time of initial admission to the School.

Procedures

  1. The student must complete a new admissions application, revised goal statement, references, and submit transcripts of any graduate-level credits or degrees earned during the period of withdrawal. The Admissions Office staff will review the initial application and determine whether the applicant can move forward in the re-admission process. The application is then forwarded to the Registrar.
  2. The Registrar determines the following:
    • The student is in good academic standing as described in AGS' Academic Progress Policy including having no courses that expired due to the Seven Year Rule.
    • Which "expired" classes must be retaken.
    • The student account is in good standing with no write-offs, collection activity or outstanding balances.
  3. Next, the application is forwarded to the Program Chair (PC) with a copy of the student's transcript. The PC performs a degree audit to determine whether the student is still a candidate for the program based on past academic performance and any dispositional issues at the time of withdrawal.  If yes, the PC completes a degree audit to determine which course(s) or field experience requirements are still needed. Returning students who have begun their Master's Project will be required to change over to the Portfolio.
  4. The results of the degree audit are communicated to the student in writing via the Re-Admissions Contract.  The student confirms their agreement and desire to continue by signing the Re-Admissions Contract with the Registrar.  The contract states explicitly which courses must be retaken and what the final deadline for completion is.  A copy is given to the student.  If the contract is not signed in 30 days, it will be considered null and void and must be re-initiated. The student is required to submit a $50 re-entry fee upon their re-admission.
  5. Students who have been previously dismissed from an AGS MA program may seek re-admission to a post-master's certificate program only if they successfully completed a Master's Degree from an accredited program. If the dismissal from AGS was based on a dispositional concern, the dismissal is final and re-admission cannot be considered.

If the student is unable to meet the newly agreed upon completion deadline, several outcomes are possible:

  • If failure to meet the deadline causes certain courses to expire, the student will need to retake and pass the respective course(s).
  • If failure to meet the deadline violates a firm and final deadline, the student will be withdrawn from the school and will be unable to complete their degree.

Responsibilities

The Admissions Office is responsible for forwarding the re-admission application to the Registrar. The Registrar prepares the Internal Re-Admissions Form and forwards the completed form to the Program Chair who will perform the degree audit. The Registrar sends the student the Re-Admissions Contract. The student is responsible for completing the re-admission process and for re-enrolling.
