770 Developing a Professional Identity and Therapeutic Process

The definitions of a professional helper will be explored in this course. This course will introduce students to professional roles, functions, and collaborations with other helping professionals in providing mental health care in individual, family, group, and other helping contexts. The development of a professional identity for counselors, psychotherapists, educators, advocates, consultants and coaches will be discussed. Students will explore the personal characteristics and behaviors that might influence helping processes, including age, gender, ethnicity, and other cultural differences. (4/14)
